Dutch novel Het Witte Boek
Synopsis
The Dutch novel Het witte boek follows Anthony Bouwer, a philosophy researcher, who learns of his twin brother Gilles’ suicide under mysterious circumstances. Gilles leaves Anthony a tooth—once belonging to John Lennon—and a philosophical testament. Anthony’s quest to return the tooth to its eccentric owner in Berlin prompts a journey through memory, grief, and identity. Set partly in Chicago, where Anthony reflects on his past and the loss of his parents, the novel explores themes of individuality, brotherhood, and the elusive dream of unity, inspired by The Beatles’ music.
Dutch play Expeditie Antarctica
A man (M) and a woman (W) go missing on the white continent during their participation in an adventurous television show (“Expedition Antarctica”). M is convinced that it’s all staged and that they are still “on camera.” W is more cynical, experiencing the whole ordeal as a detached spectator of a play she’s seen far too many times—“man and woman, missing, lost, adrift. Two insignificant dots on the infinite canvas of existence. They say all sorts of things to each other, but what they say doesn’t really matter.”
A play about two lost souls desperately searching for boundaries in an increasingly boundless world.
